KPLC Announces Planned Power Interruptions in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties

Residents and businesses in parts of Nairobi and Kiambu counties are expected to experience scheduled power interruptions following a planned maintenance exercise by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC).

The utility firm stated that the temporary electricity outages are part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability, safety and efficiency of the power distribution network.

The maintenance activities will involve inspections, repairs, upgrades and replacement of key infrastructure components to ensure stable electricity supply to customers.

In Nairobi County, several areas are expected to be affected by the planned interruption as technical teams carry out maintenance works on power lines and related equipment.

Commercial centers, residential neighborhoods and institutions within the affected zones have been advised to prepare for temporary disruptions during the maintenance period.

Parts of Ngara, the Lower Central Business District and surrounding areas are among the locations expected to experience interruptions. The maintenance exercise is aimed at enhancing network performance and reducing the likelihood of unplanned outages in the future.

Other sections of the city, including areas within Babadogo and neighboring localities, are also expected to be affected. Businesses operating in the affected zones have been encouraged to make the necessary arrangements to avoid inconveniences during the outage period.

In Kiambu County, customers in parts of Ruiru Town and nearby areas are set to experience similar interruptions as maintenance crews work on the local distribution network. The outage is expected to affect homes, businesses, educational institutions and other facilities that rely on electricity for their daily operations.

KPLC noted that planned maintenance is a critical aspect of managing the country's electricity infrastructure. Regular inspections and upgrades help identify potential faults before they develop into major system failures, thereby improving overall service reliability.

The company has advised customers to switch off electrical appliances during the outage period and to exercise caution when power is restored. Consumers have also been encouraged to remain informed through official communication channels for updates regarding maintenance schedules and restoration timelines.

Energy sector stakeholders have consistently emphasized the importance of routine maintenance in supporting a dependable power supply.

As electricity demand continues to grow across the country, investments in network upgrades and maintenance remain essential in ensuring efficient service delivery.

Although scheduled power interruptions may cause temporary inconvenience, they play a significant role in strengthening the electricity distribution system and supporting long-term improvements in service quality for consumers.
